Josephlcs - says:
did Jesus treat his apostles the same way he treated his mother?
- Josephlcs - says:
technically she was his "sister", right?
- Josephlcs - says:
so why the diff?
- Josephlcs - says:
or more practically, do you call your mother, "sis"?
- Josephlcs - says:
and refer to her by her first name?
- Josephlcs - says:
lol
- Josephlcs - says:
i should be less high sturng
- Josephlcs - says:
strung
Yapster - bah says:
frankly, it doesnt matter, mother and sister, theyre all in the same category, FAMILY..but we're not..so i think you should reconsider your proposal..
- Josephlcs - says:
oh, but it does matter doesn't it?
- Josephlcs - says:
the bible asked husbands to love their wives, and wives to submit to their husbadns
- Josephlcs - says:
why the specific order if everyoen is supposed to be treated equally?
Yapster - bah says:
currently, we are not arguing about the hieraki of a family but simply the meaning of family
- Josephlcs - says:
the point is, in terms of priority you are to care for your immediate family before others, because that's your God given responsibility
Yapster - bah says:
in which we are called by God to be in One single family, which one of us isnt in
- Josephlcs - says:
so you argue that there can only one family, and there's no such thing as multiple families, am i right?
- Josephlcs - says:
but the bible never refered to the church (universal church, that is) as a replacement of current blood ties
- Josephlcs - says:
rather, it's a suppplementary family, or concurrent family
Yapster - bah says:
the thing is, i am not arguing about blood ties, but simply the unity of His people thru christ
Yapster - bah says:
which i can obviously see that youre going off topic,
- Josephlcs - says:
this situation is somewhat similar to the exposition on the earthly citizenship and the heavenly citizenship
- Josephlcs - says:
you argue that you should be included in my family events, because you're in the same family of God as i am
- Josephlcs - says:
i'm showing you that there's more than just one family, and this is doctrinally supported
- Josephlcs - says:
show me how am i going off topic
Yapster - bah says:
well, im not saying that you should invite me on a family basis, but as a brother in christ
Yapster - bah says:
youre aguing that youre not inviting me because im not your immediate family member
- Josephlcs - says:
well, i'm showing you that nuclear family and church-family are treated differently
- Josephlcs - says:
yea
- Josephlcs - says:
that's it
Yapster - bah says:
from how you handle this matter, i can generaly say that you dont do much charity work,do you
- Josephlcs - says:
that's a very speculative statement
Yapster - bah says:
but The Lord said that we should love our neighbours as ourselves.
Yapster - bah says:
are you saying that you love yourself in various ways?
- Josephlcs - says:
are you going to be literal in every sense of the word?
- Josephlcs - says:
fine
Yapster - bah says:
every word in scripture is God breathed
- Josephlcs - says:
justify how Jesus treated his mother differently from teh other women
Yapster - bah says:
are you telling me that i can ommit certain words in the bible
Yapster - bah says:
what more the meaning of the words?
- Josephlcs - says:
don't drift there yet
- Josephlcs - says:
tell me how would you explain Jesus treating his mother differently from the other women
- Josephlcs - says:
tell me why are there specific instructions for specific relationships, ie husband-wife and slave-master
Yapster - bah says:
yes indeed i do agree that Jesus treated his mother differently from other women, but he showed an equal amount of attention to the others be it men or women
Yapster - bah says:
and ultimately He saw His family in eternal view, remember Jesus in the temple?
- Josephlcs - says:
yes i do
- Josephlcs - says:
but still, Jesus treated his mother differently.
- Josephlcs - says:
why?
Yapster - bah says:
he did, but he didnt neglect the others
- Josephlcs - says:
true
Yapster - bah says:
thats the point ive been trying to prove to you
Yapster - bah says:
throughout this whole conversation
- Josephlcs - says:
but he still treated he differently
- Josephlcs - says:
no
Yapster - bah says:
now shes a he?
- Josephlcs - says:
typo
- Josephlcs - says:
don't split hairs
Yapster - bah says:
forgiven
- Josephlcs - says:
your point throughout this conversation was that i should invite you for a family function
- Josephlcs - says:
not that i neglected you
- Josephlcs - says:
you expect the same treatment as my brothers, and my cousins
- Josephlcs - says:
not rejected neglect, as you have just announced
- Josephlcs - says:
read up on what you typed
- Josephlcs - says:
but wait,
- Josephlcs - says:
you said that the bible was God breathed
- Josephlcs - says:
and you argued that we should love our neighbours equally, because we love ourselves with consistency
- Josephlcs - says:
i quote, "are you saying that you love yourself in various ways?"
- Josephlcs - says:
so, justify why Jesus treated his mother differently
Yapster - bah says:
yes i did say that i should be invited, not as a "family" member but a family member in the body of christ
- Josephlcs - says:
or are you accusing Jesus of not obeying his own commands
- Josephlcs - says:
good
Yapster - bah says:
and you must know that ultimately we are in one family of God where no one is given into marriage in the after life
- Josephlcs - says:
then we establish that the initial point wasn't neglect at all
Yapster - bah says:
just as how Jesus refutated the saducees
Yapster - bah says:
in their argument about the widow and her husbands brothers
- Josephlcs - says:
you missed the point
- Josephlcs - says:
jesus' refutation was meant to point out that even the torah had references to the resurrection
- Josephlcs - says:
that's the point, not an exposition on marriage
- Josephlcs - says:
besides, marriage isn't exclusively what we're discussing here
Yapster - bah says:
marriage brings about family, earthly family that is
- Josephlcs - says:
you haven't answered how Jesus treated his mother differently, whereas he told us to "love our neighbour as ourselves"
- Josephlcs - says:
answer this first, then we'll tackle the other issues
Yapster - bah says:
He did treat his mother differently because he loved his mother, but with the same love, he loved the general public too
- Josephlcs - says:
then why the different treatment?
Yapster - bah says:
thats not the point
- Josephlcs - says:
wait
Yapster - bah says:
the point is that he loved everyone
- Josephlcs - says:
it is the point
- Josephlcs - says:
but you dont' explain how he treated his mother differently
Yapster - bah says:
since you brought up the matter, why dont you explain that we may better understand
- Josephlcs - says:
hm
- Josephlcs - says:
i was hoping you'd try
- Josephlcs - says:
anyway
- Josephlcs - says:
Jesus loved everyone, we all agree
- Josephlcs - says:
but he treated his mother differently, because she was his mother
- Josephlcs - says:
different relationships dictate different actions
- Josephlcs - says:
a slave does not treat his master as he would another slave
- Josephlcs - says:
a wive does not reprimand the son the way she reprimands the husband
- Josephlcs - says:
all these point out that in different situations the manner of treatment differs accordingly
- Josephlcs - says:
but that does not necessitate favouritism
- Josephlcs - says:
back to the point of multiple families:
- Josephlcs - says:
a person on earth has an earthly family
- Josephlcs - says:
and he also has a heavenly family
- Josephlcs - says:
they both are different relationships, so he treats them accordingly
- Josephlcs - says:
that would be the order that God prescribed in the beginning
- Josephlcs - says:
even the bible underlines that a husband's first priority is the wife, and vice versa
- Josephlcs - says:
this is a very practical thing, because chaos would occur if you're expected to treat another man's wife like your own
Yapster - bah says:
but is it not right and lawful that all men are equal under God?
- Josephlcs - says:
it is
- Josephlcs - says:
differing treatment does not necessitate different status in the eyes of God
Yapster - bah says:
but it does
Yapster - bah says:
different treatment shows the degree of love you have for a person
Yapster - bah says:
ie youd buy things for your loved ones
- Josephlcs - says:
that's not necessarily the case
Yapster - bah says:
but for strangers youd think twice if you even had the thought
- Josephlcs - says:
so, if you really achieved the state of unconditional love for everyone
- Josephlcs - says:
you're still expected to treat your family with more priority, simply because they're family
- Josephlcs - says:
it's not right for you to shoulder the burden of supporting all the parents of all the people you know
- Josephlcs - says:
because they have their own kids to take care of them too
- Josephlcs - says:
if they have no one to help them then it's a different story
- Josephlcs - says:
but differing situations call for differing treatment
- Josephlcs - says:
i stress that treatment alone is not the exclusive factor for affection
Yapster - bah says:
which brings me to the question where i have to ask you
Yapster - bah says:
am i that much of a burden to you
Yapster - bah says:
is a few slices of moon cakes such a dire thing that it would be costly
- Josephlcs - says:
but the point is that this gathering was for my blood family, not my church family
- Josephlcs - says:
so it wasn't my place to invite you
- Josephlcs - says:
but if youreally want some mooncakes, you're more than welcome to come over can have some with us
Yapster - bah says:
THEN WHY DIDNT YOU SAY SO..GEEZ..WASTE MY TIME...
Yapster - bah says:
hahahah
- Josephlcs - says:
because you complained about the non-invite to the party, not the mooncakes
- Josephlcs - says:
blame yourself lor
Yapster - bah says:
well, you couldve just clarified with one sentece
im sorry, i wasnt in the right position to do so
Yapster - bah says:
but no, you had to go on and on and on about your stands and beliefs
Yapster - bah says:
thats you, always wanting to prove your point
- A lot of Professors and experts were not able toanswer my questions.
Scholar: I will try my best, with the help of God .

Young Man: I have 3 questions:
1. Does God exist? If so, show me His shape.
2. What is fate?
3. If Devil was created from the fire, why at the end he will be thrown tohell that is also created from fire. It certainly will not hurt him at all, since Devil and the hell were created from fire. Did God not think of it this far?

Suddenly, the Scholar slapped the young man's face very hard.

Young Man(feeling pain): Why do you get angry at me?
Scholar: I am not angry. The slap is my answer to your three questions.
Young Man: I really don't understand.
Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: Of course, I felt the pain.
Scholar: So do you believe that pain exists?
Young Man: Yes.
Scholar: Show me the shape of the pain!
Young Man: I cannot.
Scholar: That is my first answer. All of us feel God's existence without being able to see His shape... Last night, did you dream that you will be slapped by me?
Young Man: No.
Scholar: Did you ever think that you will get a slap from me, today?
YoungMan: No.
Scholar: That is fate my second answer........ My hand that I used to slapyou, what is it created from?
Young Man: It is created from flesh.
Scholar: How about your face, what is it created from?
Young Man: Flesh.
Scholar: How do you feel after I slapped you?
Young Man: In pain.
Scholar: That's it... this is my third answer, Even though Devil and alsothe hell were created from the fire, if God wants,God willing , the hell will become a very painful place for devil.

Forwarded mail from Lizzie Hie.

Ahh ahh ahh ahh stayin alive!stayin alive!!

HAAHHA RANDOMNESS...since quote unquote "please do add urself as moderators there and post something. Keep it active " ive decided...to follow Jesus..i have decided to follow Jesus..i have decided..to follow Jesus..no turning back..no turning baaacckkkkk....(irrellavant to wat im about to post..) so yeah...since this blog so deaded...i decided to posting some randomed something.
A chatting with my friending Chi Yao. so fun that guy. bah..pop...just to kip dis blogalive...

Yapster - (bah)! says:
bah bah bahhhhh
Yapster - (bah)! says:
i misss youuu
Toblerone & on & on & on & on & on & on & ... says:
bah so late
Toblerone & on & on & on & on & on & on & ... says:

Yapster - (bah)! says:
bahh
Yapster - (bah)! says:
latte where
Yapster - (bah)! says:
there?
Yapster - (bah)! says:
or too late to miss you
Toblerone & on & on & on & on & on & on & ... says:
ahahaha
Toblerone & on & on & on & on & on & on & ... says:
BAH!
Toblerone & on & on & on & on & on & on & ... says:
too late to bah me la
Yapster - (bah)! says:
aishioo
Toblerone & on & on & on & on & on & on & ... says:
must pay late reply fee
Yapster - (bah)! says:

Yapster - (bah)! says:
okay okay...how much will it be? John 5:6

Jesus asked a man a question that appears to have had an obvious answer! He came upon a man who had been lame for thirty-eight years and who was sitting beside a pool of healing. Jesus asked him if he wanted to be healed. Why would Jesus ask such an obvious question? Perhaps the answer was not so clear. Bartimaeus was blind, yet when he cried out for Jesus to have mercy on Him, Jesus asked what he wanted Him to do (Mark 10:51). It would have seemed apparent that the foremost concern of a blind person would be to receive sight. There were times, however, when Jesus considered it important for people to verbalize their need and specifically ask Him to heal them.

Just because we are spiritually sick, or just because we are near a place of healing, does not necessarily mean we want to be made well. We may attend church regularly, but choose to remain sinful. Our generation has taken many of the activities that the Bible identifies as sin and has labeled them as addictions or character flaws or the result of an abusive upbringing. We act as if having an addiction is sufficient excuse for disobeying God's commands. As Christians, we are no longer helpless victims of our sin. There is no sinful habit or past hurt that is beyond the healing touch of our Lord.

Have you gone year after year without receiving spiritual healing? God is capable of freeing you, but you may have become comfortable in your sin. You may not want to be healed. If you really want to receive spiritual health, God can give it today. Interestingly enough, God is more committed to this than we are. And it’s a good thing, because if it all depended on us, we would never get very far in this process. We would probably be too easy on ourselves.
“And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again.” (Philippians 1:6) He started it; he will finish it.

OK, but how does this happen? One of the ways God does this is by letting the opposite thing happen to you. Do you need to learn how to love? Get ready for someone you can’t stand. Need patience? Better prepare for some aggravations to come your way. Looking for peace? Here’s a little chaos you weren’t expecting. Joy? Did I mention sorrow?

Now why is God like this? Is he some kind of killjoy in the sky? Does He get a kick out of kicking us around? Actually, he does this for the very reason that he is the one who starts and finishes the work in us. You see, all these qualities really belong to God. Love, joy, peace, patience are actually fruits of God’s Spirit in those who believe. In other words, he’s provided all these things we need, but we don’t find them until we are desperate for them. It’s just the way we were made.

If we could come up with all these qualities on our own, we wouldn’t need God; we would have rules and formulas and steps to go through to better ourselves. In other words, religion would be enough. As it is, we are deeply flawed. Even our best attempts at producing the right things in our lives come up short. Religion is a fine thing; it’s just that it has never made anyone like Christ. In fact, the more religious we become, the further away from Christ we get. You get to be more like Christ by needing him more and more in your life.

You can’t make the right stuff out of the wrong material. Or as Jesus said, you can’t put new wine in old wineskins. So God allows things into our lives that break the old, to bring in the new. The new is beyond us. We are forced to discover it when we are stretched beyond our means. So God brings the opposite to create in us what we really want. That’s when we grow.

-Adapted from Purpose Driven Life Daily Devotional-

Lizzie

Blinders and Handler

The word “blinders” often has negative connotations, but there is a positive and proper use of blinders. ... Attached to each horse's head gear were blinders — big black wings cupping the horse's eyes...... Blinders are useful tools and we have good reasons for using them. Because horses’ eyes are situated toward the sides of their heads, they have limited side vision. Sudden movements can frighten them, causing them to bolt or shy away....also, it's hard for horses to see what lies directly ahead, so blinders help a horse focus on its destination.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have spiritual blinders — blinders that would block out what might frighten us causing us to shy away from living for Christ while keeping us focused on our destination: completing a life lived in faith and purity to the Lord?

Spiritual blinders help me focus on the unique work God has called me to do — nothing more, so I will accomplish nothing less.

Dependent on the Handler

While blinders can help us focus, they also limit our vision causing us to be more dependent on our guide and handler. Limited vision forces us to wait for guidance and to trust the Handler’s course. But we can depend on Him to lead us past the scary shadows, beyond the sideline temptations, and through distractions. When we choose to put on blinders to outside influences, we are better able to "fix our eyes on Jesus" (Hebrews 12:2) and walk straight toward Him, our destination.

May the good Lord continue to work in our hearts. God always deserves our best effort. People will disappoint us, betray us, neglect us and mistreat us. Some will constantly ask for what we can give while offering nothing in return. From our human perspective, these people deserve our minimal effort at best. What then should motivate us to serve people, except our love for God?

God deserves our love, and He demands that we love others in the same way He does. We are to love our spouses, not as they deserve, but as God commands (Eph 5:22-23). We are to treat our friends, not as they treat us, but as Christ loves us (John 13:14). We are to labor at our jobs, not in proportion to the way our employer treats us, but according to the way God treats us. God is the One we serve (Eph 6:5).

Mediocrity and laziness have no place in the Christian's life. Christians must maintain integrity at home and in the workplace (Added by Lizzie: this includes college/uni too). Working for God, as opposed to working for other people, changes our perspective as we view our endeavors in light of what He has done for us. Our toil then becomes an offering to God. We not only worship God at church on Sunday, but our labor throughout the week is an offering worship and thanksgiving to the One who has given us everything we have.

When people do not measure up to our expectations and we feel our efforts are being wasted, we must keep in mind that we are toiling for holy God. He is worthy of our best effort.

Amen!

- Taken from Experiencing God Day-by-Day Devotional, by Henry & Richard Blackaby-
- Dated 1st May-

Judgement Vs. Accountability

by John Fischer

Jesus was very clear on judging another person. He said not to do it. (Matthew 7:1) But what about holding one another accountable to the truth? Don't we bear some responsibility for each other? And if we are to do this for someone, doesn't that involve judging them at some point?

Accountability is an important part of any relationship, especially one with a shared purpose in following Christ. We need each other in order to stay on the right track. The lures and temptations of this life are too great to handle alone. Paul writes, “If someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore that person gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1)

What's the difference between judging and confronting? Confronting involves doing something. Judging is all in your head. Confronting has an element of humility involved, because you know your own susceptibility to the same temptations. Judging always makes you better than someone in your own mind. And confronting always means direct contact. Judging is an evil little secret you keep to yourself or share with others in the form of gossip.
Years ago, a friend of mine was struggling over doing the right thing in an important decision he had to make. Another friend and I got the idea to go surprise him and help provide support for his decision. It didn't matter that it was a 10- hour drive to get to him (that was the surprise part) we wanted to show up as an act of loving confrontation to help him face the truth.

Now had we not made that trip, and had I used his moral failure as a means of making me seem better in my own eyes, and had I talked to others in ways that might demean him (even asking others to pray - – a favorite evangelical form of acceptable gossip) that would have been judging him. But instead we told no one, but went directly to him with our concern for him and the result was a big boost for all three of us.

I can't even tell you now what the issue was, or what he did about it -- – it's been too long now -- – but what I do remember is how blown away he was that we would care enough to go see him in person. And I know I still have a friend today.

If you ever catch yourself putting down someone in your mind, stop and realize you are judging that person, and then consider if you might be the one to go confront him or her in love. Put your information into action, or put it away and leave it with God. To harbor something in your heart about someone and not confront that person is to be a private judge, and the only one that really hurts is you.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://preu-3.blogspot.com/2006/07/judgement-vs-accountability.html' title='Judgement Vs. Do you begin your prayers with words like, “Please God, please! God, I beg you to have mercy!”

Prayers that plead and beg imply that your heavenly Father is not willing to do it. Yet, He is far more gracious and willing to give to you than you are willing to ask, think or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) He desires above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. (3 John 1:2)
In fact, long before you have a need, He has already met that need. Long before you knew you needed a Saviour, He sent His Son to be your Saviour. This is your God! He is a good God. So when you beg God for something, you are actually saying that God needs to be persuaded strongly before He will move. Yet, God is not like that.

Jesus knew the heart of the Father. When He saw the woman bound with a spirit of infirmity, He did not pray, “Oh Father! She has been suffering for 18 long years! I beseech You, Father, have mercy on her. Please, please heal her!” No, when Jesus saw her, He immediately proclaimed, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity”, because He knew the heart of the Father. He knew the Father wanted her delivered from her crippling condition.

At the end of a church service, I don’t stand and pray, “Oh God, bless Your people. Oh God, do keep them. Oh God, be ever so gracious to them!” Instead, I will proclaim, “The Lord bless you. The Lord keep you. The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you!”
So when you pray, you proclaim your healing, protection and provision because you know His heart of love towards you. And when you declare it, God sanctions it. When you declare it, God establishes it!

-aNn JilL -*

Living Water

"My people commited two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water". Jeremiah 2:13

There should never be "dry spells" in the Christian life. God said that He would be like an artesian well in the life of a believer. Artesian wells bubbled forth with a cold, fresh, never-ending supply of water from the depths of the earth, quenching any thirst and always satisfying. This is the picture of the spiritual refreshment that belongs to the person in whom the Holy Spirit resides.

Have you ever heard peopel say they are experiencing a dry spell in their Christian life? What are they saying? Are they saying that the Lord ran out of water? It should never cross your mind that the fountain of living waters residing withn you should ever be reduced to a trinkle. You don't need to run all over the country trying to find sources of spiritual refreshment. Conferences, retreats, and books can all bring encourgament; but if you are a Christian, the source of living water already resides within you.

Have you exchanged the living fountain for man-made cisterns that cannot hold water? Why would you exchange an artesian well for a broken water tank? Artesian wells do not dry up. Broken cisterns do. If you are experiencing spiritual dryness right now, is it because you have been attempting to find your source of spiritual refreshment from man-made sources, which will fail you every time? Jesus extended an invitation to you when He said: "If anyone thrists, let him come to Me and drink" (John 7:37). Have you been refreshed by the living water only Jesus can provide?

-Experiencing God Day-by-day Devotional, by Henry & Richard Blackaby-

Dated April 23rd.

Knowing Christ

"You search the Scriptiures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life"

John 5:39-40

Bible study will not give you eternal life. You could not memorize the entire Bible and be able to discuss minute issues of bliblical scholarship and yet failt o experience the truths found in its pages. It is a subtle temptaton to prefer the book to the Author. A book will not confront you about your sin; the Author will. Books can be ignored; it is much harder to avoid the Author when He is seeking a relationship with you.

The Pharisees in Jesus' day thought God would be pleaased with their knowledge of His Word. They could quote long, complicated passages of Scriptures. They loved to recited and study God's Law for hours on end. Yet Jesus condemned them because, although they knew the Scriptures, they did not know God. They were proud of their Bible knowledge, but they rejected the invitation to know God's Son.

Can you imagine yourself knowing all that God has promised to do in your life but then turning to something else instead? You may be tempted to turn to subsitutes. These subsitutes aren't necessarily bad things. They might include serving in the church, doing good deeds, or reading Christian books. No amount of Christian activity will ever replae your relationship with Jesus. The apostle Paul considered every "good" thing he had ever done to be "rubbish" when compared to the surpassing value of knowing Christ (Phil. 3:8). God sees people's hearts and knows their motives (Prov. 16:2). Only God can accurately judge those who deserve punishment. Ultimately, Christ will sit in judgment upon us all in the day of judgment (2 Cor. 5:10).

Our problem is that we like to sit in the judgment seat and pronounce condemnation upon those whom we think have sinned! Scripture commands us not to judge or condemn others, for we cannot be judgmental and redemptive at the same time. It is difficult to pray sincerely for someone while we are judging them. At times our judgment attitude can seem to provide us an excuse not to become involved in God's redemptive work in someone's life. Scripture reminds us that God will treat us with the same grace or severity with which we treat others (Luke 6:38).

God commands us not to judge others, but He does want us to be discerning. Jesus said we would know people's spiritual condition by the fruit of their lives (Matt. 7:16). He said grapes are not produced by thorn bushes. If a person's life produces thorns, we can assume that person is not a grapevine! Are we being judgmental? No, we are being discerning. Scripture commands us to avoid associating with scoffers and fools (Prov. 22.10; 17:12). Unless we are able to identify scoffers and fools, we cannot obey God's command. That is not being judgmental; it is being discerning. As Christians, we have been instructed to observe the lives of others so that we can help them while avoiding any sinful influence.

You will be helpful to others only if you see them as God does. If you have been judgmental of others, ask forgiveness and pledge yourself to let God use you as His minister of reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:18).

Adapted from Experiencing God Day-by-Dayby Broadman & Holman Publishers
Posted by Lizzie

Funny Joke : Pope and Ah Peh

About a century or two ago, the Pope decided that all the Chinese had to leave Italy. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Chinese community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Chinese community. If the Chinese win, they could stay. If the Pope wins, the Chinese would leave. The Chinese realized that they had no other choice. So they picked a middle-aged man named Ah Peh to represent them. Ah Peh asked for one condition to be added to the debate. "To make it more interesting", he said, "neither side would be allowed to talk". The Pope agreed.

The day of the great debate came. Ah Peh and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute. Then the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. Ah Peh looked back at him and raised one finger. The Pope waved his finge rs in a circle around his head. Ah Peh pointed to the ground at where he sat. The Pope pulled out a loaf and a glass of wine. Ah Peh pullout an apple. The Pope stood up and said: "I give up. This man is too good. The Chinese can stay."

An hour later, the cardinals were all around The Pope asking him what happened. The Pope said,

"First I held up three fingers to represent the holy trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions."

"Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground and showing that God was also right here with us."

"I pulled out the wine and loaf to show that God absolves all sin. He showed me an apple to remind us of the original sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?"

Meanwhile, the Chinese community had crowded around Ah Peh. "What happened?" they asked.

"Well," said Ah Peh, "First he indicated to me that allChinese had 3 days to get out of here. I replied to him f**k off and not one of us was leaving."

"Then he pointed that this whole city would be cleared of Chinese. I showed him that we are staying right here."

"Yes, and then???" asked the crowd.

"I don't know", said AhPeh, "He took out his lunch, and I took out mine!!!"

Taking Responsibility

Taking Responsibility

Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me,she gave me of the tree, and I ate."Genesis 3:12

Adam and Eve did everything they could to avoid taking responsibility of their sin. Adam blamed his wife: "She gave me of the tree." He even pointed an accusing finger at God, saying it was "the woman, whom You gave me." Eve blamed the serpent saying: "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." God ignored their excuses and announced the judgment they would face as consequences for their disobedience.

One of the dirges of mankind is that we refuse to take responsibility for our actions. We want to blame others for our problems: Our parents did not raise us well; our friends let us down; our pastor was not a good enough preacher; our children are rebellious; our employer is not sensitive enough; our spouse is not understanding; there is not enough time in the day...the excuses are plentiful! Yet forgiveness and restoration cannot happen until we accept full responsibility for our actions.

An obvious indication that we have not genuinely repented is that we make excuses for our sinful behavior. Nowhere in Scripture does God excuse one person's sin because of someone else's action. If we make a habit of blaming others for our failures, we will not reach a point of honest repentance. God will hold us accountable for our own actions, not others (2 Cor. 5:10). Strive always to acknowledge and take responsibility for your own sins. It will free you to receive God's forgiveness and to press on to spiritual maturity.

Adapted from Experiencing God Day-by-Dayby Broadman & Holman Publishers

Taken from Canaanland Devotional mail

Lizzie

The path to be taken

Hey ya all!!

I wonder how is everybody in cg... To all those who just got your SPM and STPM results, good job done that you've completed it and will now go on to your next stage of life. Thought about your future plans already??

It is a very important question for us to answer, but more importantly, are you sure the path you chose is the right one for you?? If you chosen a path, make sure you know that you won't regret. If you have not chosen one, then ask God for direction. Yesterday in IMU cg, some of the members shared that sometimes it's better to ask God to close some doors which He doesn't want you to go, so that you'll know that's not the path meant for you. The key word : Surrender to Him.

Hope ya all have a great and fulfilling week ahead!!
